Hey!

I think this was Devils Tower?

Been a little busy and distracted. We are in Phoenix AZ now. Had to return unexpectedly. We will be getting back on the road sometime in November and looking forward to it!

This is the last of the Alaskan portion of our trip. We spent a lot of time in Valdez around the fourth of July. Valdez has 3 days of events and we partook of them all. BBQ's, Fish Fry's, Parades and daylight fireworks.

We left Valdez via the Ferry to Whittier. Tremendous views of Mountains and Glaciers. Also some whale spouts and Sea Lions. It was cold and clear the whole trip allowing for great scenery. The road out of Whittier travels through a two mile tunnel and emerges on the other side of the mountains to spectacular views of glaciers and lakes. About 15 miles outside of Seward a rear tire started to delaminate. Changed it to find a severely weathered spare and limped into town. Found a great spot right on the water. As for the tire, Michelin payed to tow me to Anchorage and bought two tires! We stayed in Seward for a week where it rained almost nonstop. It was not real cold, but so wet our rain gear failed! We had to dry it out and treat it with weather proof spray. The RV park we stayed at was called the Iditarod and is the starting point of the famous race.

From there to Homer via Deep Creek. We stayed there also for about a week. Caught one Halibut on an all day trip. That provided for some excellent fish tacos! Also a couple days learning how to dig for razor clams. Looks a lot easier than it is! They sure make good fried clams, worth the effort.

We kicked back and enjoyed our time in Homer. Lots of walks down the spit. Watched the natives net salmon. Figured out how to catch the Silver Salmon at the Homer Fishin Hole. The Alaskan fish and game stocks the 'Fishin Hole' with fingerling King and Silver Salmon, they return 2-4 years later where they can be caught.

We returned to Palmer with a one day stop to walk around Anchorage. While in Palmer we drover to Hatcher Pass and hiked to the Summit Lakes and visited a abandoned mine. Great fun, we were sad to leave. There is a lot more to see in AK and also down the west coast. Hopefully we can return sometime and explore some more!

Safe travels,

Walt and Kelly
