Badlands Yellow Mounds

Badlands

Wall Drug Store

What a day! First, Flutie kept me awake thru most of the night as lightening storms circled and repeated. Then we drove thru heavy rain to get to our campground outside Interior, SD. We set up in a light drizzle, followed by sunshine.

We went to a restaurant next to the Park Visitors Center for a late lunch. Then we took a drive thru the Badlands National Park to get our first views. Incredible, beautiful, otherworldly landscapes. (See pics) We drove thru the Park to Walls to visit the famous drug store. It is hardly a drug story. Or it is a drug store gone crazy. We didn't have time to take a comprehensive look, just a cursory glance, then back on the road for supper and Flutie care. We promised ourselves to return before we leave this area.

Back at the campground - This is one of the nicest we have ever stayed in. Lots of space. The best accommodations for tenters we have ever seen with camping kitchens and a choice of gravel or grass sites. Even electric service. Our site is perfectly level - never before experienced.

All was well until a massive thunderstorm appeared on the horizon. Picture the largest fireworks display you have ever seen. NOA Weather kept issuing extreme weather reports that had Interior right in the path of this massive storm. So we prepared to evacuate. Thankfully, the storm passed to the south of us. However, I am now exhausted and so to bed.

Goodnight, all!
