|A repositioning day, we left the central area of high hills and caves to travel north through pretty flat country and the Auckland narrows to get closer to the upper North Island, our destination for the next couple of days. We drove wide and straight roads for the first time since our arrival in New Zealand! That boon was offset by having to drive through central Auckland, during showers, of course. At least it was midday, not rush hour.
We stopped early afternoon just a bit north of Auckland, along the South Pacific Ocean coast in Orewa. The campground was right along the shore and the skies had cleared, so we took a lengthy stroll on the beach and returned to sit in the sun and socialize with our fellow travelers. Between the schedule and the weather, we haven't had very many opportunities to do that.
After our usual 6 o'clock travel briefing, we strolled up the road for dinner. Found a brew pub (they're in every town here) with a very nice menu. We enjoyed our dinner and got home dry!
