Today was our relaxation day so only one activity was planned so many of our group decided to take it easy and not leave the hotel but not the 6 of us. The optional tour was to go to the leatherback nesting beaches so we were all exciting for our spouses to see and hear about the leatherback project we had done the week before. Once we go to the beach, we strolled along the same area that we had traversed previously, but now in the daylight and headed to the hatchery. Because of our experiences we were able to give a little more depth to the talk from our tour guide plus explain the whole project, the plight of the leatherbacks, and the declining numbers to the rest of our friends.
We only had a very short time on the beach but it was enough time for Dale, Karen and Don to strip down to the bathing suits and jump into the warm Pacific surf.
The afternoon was pure relaxation and we all enjoyed swimming, resting, and enjoying each other's company. The sunset was beautiful and we ended the evening with another wonderful meal that had an Asian theme. Time to repack and hit the trail again bright and early. Only 3 more nights left and then back to our cold reality!
