Torres del Paine National Park to Punta Arenas, Chile

Today was a driving day from the national park down towards Punta Arenas. We left very early and before we had left the park, the truck broke down and had to be fixed. It took about 2 hours and while we were held up at the side of the road, we had a cup of coffee and a bit of breakfast. It was freezing cold and spitting rain, but once back on the truck we headed down towards Punta Arenas. On the way, we stopped for lunch at Puerto Natales, a very windswept town at the edge of a large lake. We then drove to a penguin colony by the side of a very large inlet and looked at the penguins on the beach and then continued on towards our destination. Punta Arenas is the southernmost city in the world and is quite flat, situated next to the Straits of Magellan. Hard to imagine how cold it would be here in the winter. We arrived around 7:00pm and went out to dinner at a beautiful restaurant to celebrate the birthday of one of our fellow passengers and then home to bed around 12.
