Climbing up the Matamatahakekeke track to the lookout over Waikawau bay

Made it to the top. View back to Waikawau bay where we...

View of Waikawau bay whilst we had a welcome cup of tea...

We left Sandy Bay in the remote north of Coromandel peninsula this morning in more glorious sunshine. After a short, dusty windy, steep road over to the next bay Waikawau we followed a track UP on foot !!! to another lookout ....203m up in 2.2miles. The views were fantastic and the loop track back was not so steep and followed a stream so the fern trees and vegetation were very different although we had to rock hop across the stream many times.

We are now back in Coromandel town and civilization so can do some shopping and sort the van out with water and fuel etc as we had got very low on both. The drive over the top from the east to west coast was very steep and twisty and reminded us of the roads in Gran Canaria.
