More beautiful rock formations

and more...

We left St. George, UT expecting a flat drive through the desert and were so pleasantly surprised! Of course, since the weather was so beautiful we really wouldn’t have cared if the scenery was less than spectacular as we didn’t have to deal with snow! But after the first half hour we started to climb and once again the rock formations were breathtaking. We were driving down I-15 towards Las Vegas, and shortly after you leave St. George you also leave Utah and drive for about 50 miles through Arizona and then into Nevada. We climbed mountains and then descended over and over again and the colors of the striations in the mountains were just beautiful in the bright sunshine.

But the highlight of our day was when we got to Las Vegas and met up with our good friend April from our days at Chevy Chase Country Club in Glendale. We hadn’t seen April in a couple of years and it was just like we had seen each other yesterday. We caught up on old times, family & friends, and how our lives had changed since then. Those days were really special and the friends we made there will be our friends forever. We love you all!

From Las Vegas we headed further west, again over the mountains, and stopped for the night in Yermo, CA, just east of Barstow. The first campground we tried, Calico Ghost Town RV Park, was just that, a ghost town. So we headed into town to the KOA which turned out to be just fine. We tend to avoid the KOA campgrounds as they are more expensive than many of the others, but they are usually very nice. This one was fine, but the best part was that it backed up to the desert which was their dog park. Suzie could run for miles if she chose and had a great time before dinner and again after breakfast getting some exercise.
