Denali national park
Sep 12, 2013
|We left North Pole yesterday about lunch time and headed ?into Fairbanks. We never know exactly what we are doing or where we are going just head off in the general direction.
The sign for Denali came up very quickly and it was quick quick Denali or Fairbanks for the night. We headed to Denali and lucky for us because today was the last day of the season.
We stopped on the way to use wi fi. I think I blogged about that experience.
We arrived there about 7 in the pouring rain. The RV park was like a parking lot and was the most expensive yet. It is a big tourist spot though. We only need a space for the van till morning. A loaf of bread cost me $6.99.
And can you believe I got 1cent change. Awful bread as well it's all too sweet for us.
We did the bus trip around the park today from 9-4 then drove 2 hours back here to Fairbanks.
It doesn't get dark till 10pm.
The park was fabulous. We were lost for words. It's the most amazing place and the fall colors just added to its beauty. We had a lovely clear day
And saw Mt Mckinnley the highest peak in the US. It is very unusual to see it in the sun. The bus driver said he hasn't seen it all out like today for the whole season. We were so lucky. Nearly forgot to mention that we saw 4 grizzly bears and one had 3 cubs.
Tomorrow we are heading back down the road we came on for about a day or two as there is no other way. Then we change routes a bit and head up to Dawson City, then back along the Alaska Highway.
