As bulldozers and other large equipment were to grate the campground, we were to move our truck, so we spent the day in the park. Our drive out to Savage River after breakfast yielded only a few Ravens, but we did see a bull and cow moose. With our windows cracked, due to the rain, we spent some time at the Mountain View trailhead, and though John thought he heard an Arctic Thrush, we saw nothing.

Our meeting with Mary Ann was at 10 – it was so good to see her. Mary Ann and Jeffery were the couple we met at Watson Lake this spring and were snowed in for 5 days there. She showed us around her office and then took us to meet the Volunteer Coordinator, Kathleen Kelly, who was very encouraging about a possible volunteer position. Afterward, we took Mary Ann for lunch at the Visitor’s Center grill, where we joined other staffers. It was a great morning.

Our afternoon was in the Visitor’s Center exhibit and we heard a ranger presentation of the many relationships to the mountain. When we arrived home, the road work had been halted early due to the incessant rain, so we came in and relaxed and read.

Dinner was Shepherd’s Pie with green beans, one of our favorite fall meals. We spent the evening watching “The President’s Gatekeepers.”
