Camping on the River

Camping on the River

We just finished a wonderful five night stay in North Fork Idaho, at one of the best campgrounds of our trip to date. "Wagonhammer" is located right on the Salmon River and our campsites were about twenty feet from the river. We saw Deer, elk, and Black Bears from the campsite, as well as several Osprey, Eagles and Blue Heron We have visited here three times and we hope to return again.

One of the highlights of this stop was a float down the Salmon River followed by a light lunch along the rivers edge. Another was a drive up the Salmon along the Lewis and Clark trail, to just above Shoup, a small town? with the oldest working gas pumps in America, very close to the spot Lewis and Clarke were stopped by rapids on the Salmon River.

Today we are in Victor Idaho, and I will try to update the journal from here.
