We spent three days in Cashmere, Washington. On the day we arrived we all went down and checked out the local Barbecue place. The next day, all of us headed up the road to Leavenworth, a city that reinvented itself as a Bavarian Village in the 1960’s. Additional info on Leavenworth is included at the bottom. The guys wandered around while the women shopped and checked out the local wine tasting. Our lunch was only so – so.

The following day four of us drove to Chelan where we picked up a rental Boat for a trip up Chelan Lake and back. Lake Chelan is a narrow, 55-mile-long lake, with an approximate depth of 1486 ft. making it the 3rd deepest lake in the USA and the 28th in the world. We had an easy trip up the lake with a number of stops along the way. The return trip included some rough water in the middle area of the lake, but nothing serious or threatening.

On the last day Carmen and I hiked the Icicle Gorge loop trail (4 miles). It was a fairly easy hike with some elevation changes. The views of the creek were interesting and I can only imagine what it would look like in the early spring when the runoff is much heavier.

We head for Prosser, Washington tomorrow for four nights.

Enjoy the Pictures.

Leavenworth was officially incorporated on September 5, 1906. A small timber community, it became the headquarters of the Great North Railroad in the early 1900s. The railroad relocated to Wenatchee in the 1920s, greatly affecting Leavenworth's economy.

The city struggled until 1962, when the Project LIFE (Leavenworth Improvement For Everyone) Committee was formed to transform the city into a mock Bavarian village to revitalize its economy.[6] Owen and Pauline Watson, owners of a business on Front Street, formed the committee after visiting Solvang, California in 1958 and thought it was an excellent idea for Leavenworth.
