St. Mary's River, With USA On Opposite Side (Note Homeland Security guard...

I had an early breakfast, cleaned my bicycle and did my laundry. I then called my Endodontist to make an appointment for him to check a tooth that has been bothering me ever since I had a root canal treatment done just prior to leaving on this trip.

I will be seeing him on Friday morning, which means that I will be leaving the Tour group on Thursday afternoon, when we arrive in Tobermory, and I won't rejoin them until their departure from Toronto on the following Tuesday morning. As a result, I will miss the segments covering Tobermory - Owen Sound - Alliston - Toronto (about 370 km in total). This region is close to home and very familiar to me, as well as being densely populated with aggressive drivers, so this interruption will not be much of a loss from my perspective. The break will give me four full rest days at home, which will be very nice indeed, particularly as it coincides with my 24th wedding anniversary.

I spent the rest of the day wandering around the town centre and the waterfront, stopping at a Pita Pit for a quick lunch. For dinner, I went to the historical Muio's restaurant where I had soup, salad, chicken parmigiana with a nice Merlot wine, and apple pie with ice cream for dessert. The place was busy and service was quick, with good home-style meals.

I must say that I have got to like Sault Ste. Marie. While it does not have all the amenities and sophistication of a large city, is a friendly and unpretentious town.

Weather: Variable clouds and warm.
