We don’t leave Kona until 10:45 tonight, so we decide to take another trip up the coast. We go north toward the airport and stop at the Kona Mountain Coffee shop for – what else? – coffee – and cookies and free samples.

Then we go further north to Honokohau Marina, part of the Historical National Park. Great scenery again with huge waves coming into the shore.

From there we drove up to Lapakahi State Historic Park where they are restoring a fishing settlement that dates back more than 600 years. Very interesting landscape and noted to be one of the most scenic views of the island.

Sadly, we left Kona Airport at 10:45 p.m. Friday night, scheduled to be in Kansas City at 1:42 p.m. local time on Saturday. Flights were all on time, connecting through Phoenix. When we landed in Phoenix at 7:25 a.m., it was 119 degrees.

We all agreed it was the trip of a lifetime and one we will be talking about for a long time.

Aloha, Hawaii.
