|After four days in Denali National Park we drove south to Denali State Park. This park is forested and has a large lake. It is quite different from the national park. Black Bears live here; Grizzlies in the national park. Its best feature is the great views of Mt. McKinley in the national park. However, today was gloomy and rainy and there were no views of the mountains. It rained most of the day and the mosquitoes were very bad. After a week of roasting in the heat in Fairbanks, the temperature has now dropped to just eight degrees above freezing with a high of 12 during the day. We needed a rest anyway after our activities in Denali National Park.
