Russia and beyond 2013 travel blog

Today we looked at many icons. As one learns more about the background and importance of icons the more interesting they become. There is a strict way of producing icons and I'm gradually learning what to look for. Some are very beautiful and the faces lovely. I'm not able to tell which school they all come from but I'm sure the experts know what to look for. I'm not really interested in the finer details but some were wonderful. In the afternoon we had a cruise on the Moskova River. The sun was shining and the domes glowed. The views of the Kremlin, St Basil's, numerous beautiful building and the Starlin Skyscraper were magic. It was terrific to see Moscow from the river as it looks so different.

Suzanna and I had another evening on iPads with a glass of wine at Peter11 with a different pianist. Just as relaxing. We seem to have reasonable lunches so a light dinner is plenty. I'll be glad to leave our hotel. It is very basic and the bed is so uncomfortable. The ceilings in the building are very high and I have to stand on the chair to open the window as there are double windows and one needs to stand on the window sill to open the top window so the air flows through. My back is aching and it reminds me of my room when I was living in the nurses residence at the RAH. Spartan but functional.

Robyn found her phone tucked away in her bag! Luckily it was not stolen.
