It was a long, long 8-hour day on a plush Oltursa bus which took us to Huancayo. This mid-size city has been described as the wild, wild west of Peru. So far all we can see on the street where Hostal las Lomas in situated are many casinos and chifas which are restaurants with Chinese food. We had a late dinner and called it a night.

Other than thinking this trip would put us on our way south toward Cusco and beyond, there was really no reason to come to this city. We were hoodwinked into believing it was of some interest by a Scot we met in the Lima Hitchhikers Hostel. This was an error in judgment made after a few copas de vino.

There´s a ´missing link´in the transport system between Huancayo and Cusco. In other words, you can´t get there from here. The road is largely unpaved, dangerous, and a cliff-hanger. We have decided to gut it out and return to Lima by Monday. This is called backtracking.
