Driving along the beach

April 20 - 22

We had an awesome 3 days on a "Tag along 4WD self drive tour" of Fraser Island with 30 backpackers mainly Swiss and German. Davo and I both had a go at driving on the beach. Every day was a race against the high tide, with some challenging conditions. 2 of the vehicles in our group broke down within 15 minutes of each other at the end of the second day and we had to hitch a ride back to our camp. We saw all the sights, Lake Wabby, Eli Creek, the Maheno Wreck, Indian Head, Champaigne Pools, Lake McKenzie, Central Station, and of course Dingoes. Davo was a bit frustrated by not being able to surf. Too many stories of sharks although we didn't spot any. Also not enough time to fish. Fraser Island exceeded my expectations. It is much more than just a long beach. It is a truly beautiful place. Rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
