Sihanoukville Cambodia is a contrast between beautiful beach resorts with stunning white sand beaches and the simple rustic life of most of the locals not involved with the tourist industry. We visited the small rural village (I use the term “village” very loosely here!) of Puthuong, which had 500 or so residents scattered about the rice paddies and forest. The simple homes had no electricity or plumbing. They cooked over wood or coal in a very simple kitchen about the size of a closet in the States. The windows were mostly left over plastic gathered trash sites in the city. These people live as they have for centuries and seem very happy. We visited the local school and were treated to the 1st grade class ( about 15 children ) singing us the ABC song! It was incredible. The school had 143 children in 6 classrooms with no electricity or plumbing! The children seemed to be happy as can be and very excited for our visit. When school lets out the parents pick them up 3 to 4 plus themselves on a single motors scooter! No cars to be seen in this area. This was an eye opening experience which makes me sure I will never complain about my house again! We drove to Sokha Beach Resort for lunch and the rest of the day laying on a beautiful beach, plenty of time to count our many blessings! Off to Singapore. Be Well. Michael and Cheryl
