David & Pamela - Around Australia 2013/2014 travel blog

Isn't it funny how we can be so confident that nothing will happen? Riding our bikes into Yarrawonga we could see there had been a bit of flooding. We kept to the path all the way into town. My gears were very stiff so we visited the bike shop. On the way back David got a puncture so had to walk most of the way back. Then on the last leg home I also got a puncture which was disappointing. How funny that we should both get punctures!

The couple we met yesterday came round and told us about the devastation in Mulwala on the New South Wales side of the Murray River. We then discovered that it had been a tornado like they have in the mid west but not as big. Still there was serious devastation with a whole caravan park flattened and residents escaping with their lives and nothing else.

Other places have been hit too. One couple were inside there caravan and it rolled eight times and they were left with just the chassis. The lady got a nasty cut on her face and a black eye but they were otherwise unharmed.

There are such scenes of devastation. You can hardly believe the days can be so beautiful after.
