Back To Needles California Dec 2012 -Feb 2013 travel blog

Today we removed ourselves from another 95 degree day . Spent the day up at Idyllwild at an altitude of 5500 ft and temps in the low seventies,it was quite a nice relief. Wandered around all the little shops ,had lunch and by 4:30 headed home and hopefully to cooler temps.

We took the circle route that began in Palm springs on Highway CA74 a very twisty road with drivers that drove it like they were a part of some mountain road race.

The return leg was on a very good highway CA243 to Banning encountering lots of snow along the road sides from last Fridays Snowstorm.

We have done 3 of the routes into Idyllwild now and if I had to choose one of these roads to use again it would be the Banning 243 route.

As far as bringing the trailer up there.....no way.

Discovered that a 5 acre forest fire had started while we were up there today. That would explain that fire truck screaming past us as we dodged runoff water from the piles of melting snow.

We also missed the 2 earthquakes earlier this week.Even though many in this area felt it we again missed all the excitement.
