Dumb & Dumber hit the road again-Australia here we come travel blog

Rain again today accompanied by a severe weather warning. Regular updates on the radio, on our five hour drive from Yeppoon to Hillsborough National Park, say the weather is going to stay as it is for the next 48 hours. It poured all the way. We heard that it’s 30+ degrees in Melbourne, unbelievable.

As we entered the resort we were greeted by a kangaroo hopping around. What a welcome. Our accommodation is very, very basic, but you don’t expect much more when you stay in this type of place. The wild life is what makes it so special.

A few steps from our “cottage, come large shed”, is an amazing beach. Again not at its best due to the bad weather. Just off the beach is a small island, which can only be reached by a causeway at low tide. We intend doing the walk to the island tomorrow, through a bit of forest and up quite a steep incline. If you hear reports of two Brits going missing in Queensland then it’s us and we’re marooned on the island.

There are a few nature walks we want to do whilst we are here as it really is quite a beautiful place. Very tropical and peaceful. Tomorrow at sunrise we are going to head for the beach as the kangaroos all appear there at this time of day – can’t wait.
