Coober Pedy's Main Claim to Fame

Daylight came with clouds and a refreshing breeze! Stopped in Coober Pedy mining town and toured Old Timer's Mine - opal mine from 1916...really awesome! Then B & M went shopping for opals & I sat and read Acceptable Risk by Robin Cook (quite appropriate given Boeing's recent - now in 2013 - battery problems). The tourist info center here was very helpful including free internet!

At 3pm we continued on from C.P. the sky continued delightfully overcast and cool - well, if 34+C. can be considered cool, ha!

Landed at Spuds Roadhouse outside Woomera and Pimba. Had a fine chickenburger with "the lot" , as the sign read...chicken, egg, ham, cheese, slab of bacon, tomato, cucumber and stuff plus chips! Such a deal and all for $8.55!

At Spuds it was another park for free PLUS free public toilet and shower facilities! Drove into Woomera, site of 1947 established rocket testing range. Very 50's with grid housing, neat and tidy, very quiet, almost spooky! Wiki Info Woomera
