Nightlife on the river

Nov 4 - 7 (Sun. - Wed.) Bangkok R & R

We flew out of Cambodia on Bangkok Air on Sunday and arrived at the Shangri La Hotel around 10PM and were escorted to our room in the Krungthep Wing for a couple of days of R&R after the whirlwind exploration of three countries in a little over a week. We needed the rest! Our greeting letter invited us to a 25% discount on massages in the Chi Spa during our first 24 hours. Of course, we booked one for 2PM. After a big breakfast and an explore of the hotel we headed to the spa for a most wonderful relaxing and restorative massage. Dinner was an extensive buffet at Nex2 with cooked to order beef, fish, and pork plus all of the other buffet offerings. Still relaxed from our massage, we slept well as the river traffic passed by in splendidly illuminated boats.

The next day we walked around outside in the 95F heat and humidity and visited the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. We thought our hotel was just a notch higher than this landmark establishment.

Dinner on this our last night in Bangkok was at the Salathip Thai Restaurant with a table right on the river. Besides the great food, we were treated to a performance by dancers/actors. Again we enjoyed a good, but short night's sleep as we arose at 2AM for our flight to Bhutan.
