Toby-Sue Trip to the Gulf of Mexico 09-10 travel blog

Well, we talked with a fellow in the park, and he told us some things to do. He worked for the search and rescue here for 12 years, so he knew all the "good spots". He told us to go up the Forest Rd. along the rim of the Mogollon Canyon. The first 5 miles were hairpin turns up the mountains. It was VERY rough, and we considered turning around. But, we kept saying, "lets give it one more mile". We are so glad we did. After about 7 miles, we were on the top of the rim. It was 8,000' up. And what a spectacular view. He told us he thought it was better than the Grand Canyon. We can't say, because we haven't seen the canyon yet. But this was wonderful. The whole length was about 40 miles, but we turned around at about 17 miles for a couple reasons. There was a fire in the distance, and we didn't want to get caught in it. Secondly, we ran out of snacks. Third, the sun was going down, and we would have been there in the dark. Wise choice, but we will go back. As usual, the pictures do not do it justice. And again, the jeep amazes me, performing without one complaint. It is a great little machine. We also stopped at Montezuma's Castle. Interesting if you have never seen ruins before, but we weren't too impressed by it. And Montezuma never lived there. All in all, a great day. Came back to the park and met a great couple in the spot next to us.

Looks as tho there won't be a ny pictures this time either. The site has restricted posting pictures unless you purchase the premium service. I'll have to check into that. Sorry.
