Drifter Diaries travel blog

We took a private bus from Cusco into the Manu Cloud Forest. We ended up having to take a much longer trip than planned due to landslide damage to the road that we were supposed to take. We ended up stopping to eat at a little town called Paucartambo. There was a crowd of local people who were on strike there, although I’m uncertain what about. We drove through some seriously steep terrain, which had many of us fearing for our lives. If the bus driver made too sharp of a turn and missed the road by any means, we were destined to cut our adventure short and take a very long tumble through the trees!

We finally arrived safely to a site called the Wayqecha Cloud Forest Biological Station belonging to the Asociación para la Conservación de la Cuenca Amazónica (ACCA). We finally got organized into our research groups where I was teamed up with Jen, and two guys named Will and Chris to research the black caiman once we arrived at Cochu Cashu Biological station in the Amazon. We took a short nighttime hike before hitting the hay.
