Rapids Lawn Hill Gorge

Lawn Hill National Park Qld 17 – 18 Sept 2012

After our mammoth drive the day before we were all very keen to get to our next destination – Lawn Hill National Park. We didn’t know much about the National Park except that the campsite was located by a river with a great swimming hole.

We passed through several cattle stations and 3 river crossings and arrived at Adel’s Grove where we set up camp under the shade of palm & mango trees. A stark contrast to the countryside surrounding the National Park.

That afternoon we swam in the waterhole, swinging off ropes attached to trees and floating around on inner tubes.

The next day we drove into the National Park and hired 2 canoes and paddled up the river through spectacular scenery.

At the end of the 1st gorge were several cascading waterfalls which meant you had to drag the canoes up and over the river bank for 20meters to paddle the 2nd gorge.

It was well worth the effort and at the end we were rewarded with some unexpected fun riding the small rapids.
