|It's been a pretty lazy last couple of weeks but I'll try to briefly hit a few of the highlights today.
Our friends Jay & Sharon stuck around a few extra days after rally ended so we shared a couple of evenings with them. Sharon had us over on Tuesday for a nice spaghetti dinner with all of the trimmings and Wednesday they joined us for a dinner of taco soup. Dick & Lou came as well and the six of us enjoyed chatting about food, politics and the beauty of this country. Jay & Sharon ride the hills on their Harley EVERY day that they are here & they've been coming for many years (way longer than we have) so we learned of a couple of different areas that we've not yet visited. We now have a couple of new destinations before our time here in Custer ends. Cool!
Thursday we attended the annual block party held downtown. Each year several of the local business's close the street, hire a band and serve good food as a neat way to thank folks for their patronage. How nice is that? And unusual too! Most years they serve burgers & dogs, but this year's menu included pulled pork sandwiches, cole slaw, beans, chips, cookies, drinks, ice cream and samples of the recently opened General Custer's Gourmet Popcorn. We only stayed about 90 minutes as we had a prior commitment to meet our buddies Brad & Bonnie in Pringle for dinner at 6:30pm.
We arrived at 6:20pm & pulled into the parking area at the same time our buddies did. To our surprise, Rick & Peggy were with them and another friend of theirs, Cindy, was sitting & waiting for us on the front porch. How nice! On Thursday's the Hitch Rail offers all you can eat ribs with choice of potato, soup & salad bar for $13.95 so many of the locals visit regularly. The ribs were very good & all 7 of us ordered them. I can see why the place was packed!
Friday we made an all day run into Rapid City to pick up some essentials but mostly to get hair cuts. We both needed one desperately! We made a quick stop at Petsmart for Onyx's favorite snack food, yam's. Yep, she loves them, even prefers them over her chicken jerky these days. She also loves her wild Alaskan salmon crunch puffs with sweet potatoes. We've got her on a regimen that also includes glucosamine/chondroitan for her joints. She's showing a bit of aging these days, right along with all of the rest of us, lol. Gray hair and all!
And finally, Sunday morning we attended the 9:45am service before heading over to Steve & Janet's for a brat bbq. Our buddies Dick & Lou and Terry & Dawn were also there. The weather was perfect & we enjoyed sitting in their beautiful wooded backyard before finally moving to the upper deck. We were also joined by a beautiful buck & his sweet doe. The buck wasn't as keen about joining us so he soon bounded off into the trees. But she stuck around for several minutes enjoying a few handouts. I never get tired of watching them. Such pretty faces & long, graceful lines. The brats were amazing & Janet also made a great homemade salsa as one of the side dishes. Dawn contributed a delicious homemade peach cake...I've got to get that recipe! We had a really nice time, thanks guys!
Well, think I'll close for now. As I proof read this before posting it, it seems like all we do is eat! And we do eat well, BUT, we really do enjoy other activities too! Like the wonderful line dance classes we're taking on Wednesday mornings. Our friend Pat is a terrific dance instructor, so patient and kind with all of us. I must say we're finally catching on to most of them. All but Country Girl! Oh my, that one is a killer, so many steps to remember. Pat's just returned from a neat trip to Glacier NP & we're sure glad she's back. We're having an additional class this week on Friday. Yipppeeee, we need all the classes we can get before our summer wraps up. And Dick & Larry had a successful fishing trip on Tuesday. But more, and pics, on that next time. Thanks for stopping by!
