We visited the Masstown Market today just outside Truro, Nova Scotia. It is a huge marketplace, similar to but much bigger than Trader Joe’s. They had fresh local fruits and vegetables, gifts, wines and liquors, and a restaurant in a model lighthouse. We had fish (again), but huge servings, enough to take some with us for another day. They even had a band playing at the restaurant. Nancy ran into the man who owns it who she had met in Texas earlier this year.
We traveled on from there to Truro and stopped to see the tree sculptures. It seems that in 1982, the beautiful elm trees of Truro were destroyed by elm disease. But instead of tearing out the trees, they commissioned a tree sculptor to carve figures from the tree trunks. There are now 20 sculptures throughout the city, representing historic figures from the town. What a concept!
Tonight we will camp at Walmart in Halifax.
