|It rained all night finally stopping about 06:30AM this morning. Looks like there might be a break in the clouds to the northeast.
I left the RV at 09:00AM for the Talkeetna Air Taxi office for my flight around Mt. McKinley and glacier landing. They told me the weather was not cooperating and to come back at 10:30AM to see what the flights look like.
I drove out to the city park on the river. Talkeetna is located at the confluence of the Susitna, Chulitna, and Talkeetna Rivers. The water was really swift. While there, a tour boat with no tourists came down the river going pretty fast. Somewhere just south of me it turned around and came back north at the same rate of speed.
I went back at 10:30AM and they said they still were not flying and rescheduled me for tonight at 18:30PM. They took my cell phone number and said they would call if there was any break in the weather before that.
I walked through Talkeetna and visited most of the shops – nothing I was really interested in buying. I did purchase a Polish Dog and soft drink ($5.00 plus $1.00 for drink) for lunch. With the gloomy weather I figured it was a good time to return to the RV and take a nap and that is exactly what I did.
At 17:45PM I went back to the flight office. The lighter “Beaver” planes are unable to do glacier landings due to one and a half feet of new snow. The heaver “Otter” planes were not sure if they could land or not and were doing an abbreviated tour because of fog and cloud cover. If they did land it was going to be at a lower elevation than where they normally land. Not wanting to go up and not get the chance to land on the glacier I rescheduled for 14:00PM tomorrow.
Back to the RV to catch up on some magazine reading that was in my last mail package.
6.4 SUV miles today.
