Wenatchee River Bluegrass Festival, Cashmere, WA

6/13 – 6/16

In 153 miles (US12, US395, SR17, I-90, SR281, SR28, US2) we arrived at the county fairgrounds in Cashmere, Washington. There we were joined again by David and Dianne to attend the Wenatchee River Bluegrass Festival. Also at the festival were Larry and Barb Seiger who we know from our winter stay at Casa Grande. This was another good festival, the bands included The Callenders, Runaway Train, Prairie Flyer, John Reischman and the Jaybirds, Kenny and Amanda Smith Band, The Chapmans, 32th Street Band and Kevin Pace and the Early Edition. The band we liked the best was The Chapmans.

We visited the Apple Council Visitor Center in Cashmere where we learned that the state of Washington produces a large percentage of the apples consumed in the US. The center also provided an interesting movie along with apple snacks. We checked out Liberty Orchards, home of Aplets, a rubbery candy. We saw their kitchens, packing area and tested out their products. We also visited the Artisan Cider Mill where we tasted a number of “soft” (really expensive) ciders that were quite good. We tried one of their apple butter milkshakes which was even better.

We did some good eating while in the area. David cooked a 5 star marinated flank steak dinner and we had 4 star pulled pork BBQ sandwiches at Country Boy’s Southern Style BBQ (400 Aplets Way, Cashmere, WA 509-782-7427)
