Just passing thru here on the train, first stop for 10 minute break off the train stretch!Wiki Info Kota
Most auspicious date for train to Goa! After breakfast a tuk tuk ride to the station, traffic not bad and train on time - 11:05. Our AC sleeper 2nd class is shared with 2 Indian men, Sabby & Akky, mid-20s who work as recruiters (their company represents 70 + different companies). One fellow, Akky, who started his own recruiting company as a franchise from the one he worked for suggested to his friend, Sabby, that they join forces - a partnership. They are now their own business and have placed 27,000 people in last 7 years. Major companies include Brit Airways ( made a placement while we we on train), Quatro Group, Citi Bank, etc. Before joining Akky, Sabby had created his own business of hauling water in tanker trucks building it up to 6-7 trucks before the government required him to convert them from diesel to CNG which proved too expensive for him so he sold the business - he was 19 at the time! Traveling to Goa for a week of gambling, ha!
Train is an express, pretty much no stops through rural, agricultural areas...quite dry, flat, waiting for the late arrival of monsoon rains. According to the news the week late arrival is coming ashore and into Mumbai today! Our 2nd class status seems pretty 1st class to me if you judge by the food service! Right after getting started they brought bread sticks and butter, then a cup of soup, then lunch ( ours was veggie) see photo - a bit spicy w/o yogurt, then a cup of ice cream, and about tea time - tea, sweet roll, biscuit, and a somoza! This is after less than 7 hours on the train, a regular moving banquet I'd say!
Went through our first rain shower too, sky is now cloudy after our first get-off-and-stretch stop in Kota. Veg dinner was similar to lunch - soup and bread sticks first, then meal this time with yogurt, and the ice cream to put us to bed.
Second stop at 9:30 was Bodhra. The rumdumdum of the rails makes sleep easy but wakes me when it stops....
