10th May 2012

The drive from Cunamulla is on good roads, but the last 15 km from Eulo to Wandilla Station is bone shaking corrugations, but it was worth every bump. Music in the Mulga was amazing, the camp area was huge and there were showers and toilets available and good drinking water from the bores.

The first couple of days were laid back with all of the entertainers joining in with everybody and generally having a great time. We caught up with Rod Dowset and his wife, Shelley again. I won a cowboy hat at the walkups and even though it is a bit big, I think my head was swollen enough after that for it to fit.

Friday evening the entertainers had a cook off on the camp fire and had to provide dinner for the public, and did they do a good job, for instance Adam Kilpatrick cooked Yellow Belly that he had caught when we were in Cunamulla and Lemon peppered Crocodile and huge Yabbies, Lorraine pinched a bit of the Crocodile and said it was delicious.

Rod Dowsett did a curry and Bec Hance did a stew and a damper. Dinner was 10$ a head and the money went to the Flying Doctor.

Also on the friday afternoon all the Muso's had a jam that was a pleasure to listen to, not amplified, just sitting around the camp fire.

The first couple of days there was only a small area with a sound system, but on friday two huge road trains arrived and set up a semi trailer sized stage with a huge sound and lighting system for the saturday concert which went from 1pm until midnight and a lot more local people came to that.

There were approximately 200 Caravans and Motor Homes for the 5 days, but I don't think any money was made on the event although with some special events the Flying Doctor gained over $3500.

After leaving Wandilla, we came across to Thargominda to the Explorers Caravan Park, another oasis in the outback, we will stay her for a couple of days to get rid of the red dust and wash our clothes and then on to Noccorunda ad back to free camping again
