A friendly wombat had Max very excited and hanging out the window...

Enjoyed catching up with family and friends before we left. Excitement really started to sink in as soon as we were happy we'd packed everything into the van and left the house in an ok condition!

We headed out the gate around 1pm, later than we'd hoped but still a day earlier than planned. It was smooth travelling until the first BP where we stopped to let Max out to stretch his legs and kick the footy.

Decided it was too late in the day to try and make in out the otherside of Melbourne before it became too busy with peak traffic. Pulled out the CAMPS SNAPS book and found a free camp 7ks out of Gembrook (35mins from where we were). Heading into the park we had a heap of kangaroos hopping along beside us and then we spotted a very friendly little wombat that happily stayed by the side of the road so Max could hang out the window and have a look. Exciting stuff for a 2yr old!!

The park is called Kurth Kiln and is a small historic park in the bush with old buildings and information and a gorgeous little lake. We were the only ones there. A very impressive first free camp. However, not expecting to do any free camping within at least the first two weeks we were slightly under prepared! Our generator has ran out of fuel and its not even 7pm! In for a very cold night indeed. Also, someone (not me!) forgot to refill the water tank to the caravan! Not to worry we plan to get up and leave first thing anyway (cos we will be freexing!)

Havent thought of anything major that we might've forgotten, yet!

Off to Warrnambool tomorrow for a few nights with Dylans grandma.
