|Rest day in Pheriche. That means a small hike to a local lookout and that's it. It still took about 3 hours but the views were utterly incredible. 360 degree views of mountains and valleys that are almost impossible to describe. We loaded a bunch of them on Facebook today.
today is a sad day for all of us. We are now down to 9 trekkers. Today Grace & norm flew out by helicopter around 12 noon. Grace had a gall bladder attack of some kind and was in a lot of pain. she made the 5 hour trek yesterday here. What a trooper. They visited a local clinic where the doctors recommended that she evacuate. We don't think her condition was caused by the altitude, water, or food. it may have been something that would have happened anywhere. What rotten luck. there were a lot of hugs & tears and they were finally on their way.
If you read this Norm & Grace we hope that all went well and you had a safe trip home. We are all thinking about you.
Tomorrow is a very early start (7am). with a long day ahead to Laboche. The next 3 days are going to be the big ones. Altitude gain, getting to Base Camp, and with luck to Kala Patthar. There likely will be no more updates until we are on our way down and hit a spot where they have a Cyber Cafe and we have time to use it.
Wish us luck and stay tuned
