Day six and here we are in Pheroche at 4290 meters (14,157 feet). We left Namche 3 days ago and stayed at Khumjung, Pangboche, and now Pheroche. We got here about 1 pm today and will stay 2 nights. Tomorrow will be a rest day.

We had our first view of Everest today. Not all of it. It was just the top poking out behind another range. We will have to wait for a couple more days yet to get better views.

Our weather has been unsettled. Yesterday we had a bit of everything and for the first

for Eoin in 17 treks he got rained on while trekking. We woke up this morning to clear skies and had absolutely spectacular vistas for the whole day. I am not able to load pictures easily at this cyber cafe but it is still amazing we can get on line at all!!

Yesterday was the toughest day so far. We hiked for 7 hours and 45 minutes with about a 45 minute rest. 3 1/2 of those hours were going uphill to about 13,000 feet. The going was slow to say the least. We decided to do our trek the way the porters do it. They carry amazingly heavy loads and are tough to keep up to. What they do is go so far and then stop for a rest. We did the same. Hike for about 5 minutes and then rest enough to get the heart rate down We figure there is only so much oxygen to go around and when you are trekking the muscles take it all to the detriment of the organs. Stopping for a while tends to even things out. Whatever it actually worked quite well. While we were all weary we felt pretty good.

Mary and I are feeling very good at this point (knock on wood). We haven't experienced any altitude problems yet and the food has been manageable. We haven't gone hungry either. There has been the odd stomach pang but it never amounted to much.

The rest of the team are comprised of a whole range of people. We have 11 trekkers in total. We have 1 magician, 1 nurse, 2 retired teachers, 1 psychologist, 1 photographer, 1 carpenter, 1 director of marketing, & 1 director of communications, 1 kitchen designer, & 1 retired TELUS employee. All ranging in ages from 27 to 62. Mary & I being the oldest male & oldest female.
