We took a short trip about 30 miles east of Mesa to hike part of the Arizona Trail at Picketpost Mountain. This mountain reaches an elevation of 4,375 feet and has a mailbox at the top. The mailbox is a place to store log books. One is entitled to log their name in the logbook when reaching the top. Sorry to say, we did not make the climb today. One of these days, I hope to. I understand that there are some areas with steep drop offs, and I don't do heights very well! Instead, we trekked about 3 miles of the AZ Trail just south of the mountain through an area known as Alamo Canyon. Total hike was right at 6 miles. We got a few beautiful pictures with snow in the mountains north of Picketpost. Yes, it does snow in southern AZ, but not much and not often.
