Today was the day for the 8 of us to explore San Antonio. We started our day visiting with the Board of Directors of the Methodist Mission Home. They were all in for a meeting and it was a quick who we are and what we do. Then the adventure really began as we took the bus down to the historic district. We explored the River Walk, an area that was the first urban renewal project in the US. If you have never been to San Antonio, the River Walk is a must see. There are restaurants and shops on each side of this narrow (tourist boat only) byway. Beautiful landscaping along the way really makes this sight unique. We all took one of the boats (barges) for a 35 minute narrated tour. We actually had lunch before the ride right on the River Walk at Joe’s Crab Shack. The service was a tad slow but we really did not have a time constraint and the conversation was great and the food was as well. After the River Walk we went to the Alamo where the likes of Davey Crockett and Jim Bowie unsuccessfully fought the Mexican’s who actually owned the territory. This defeat was a battle cry for settling Texan’s and was an integral part of Texas’s becoming its own territory and eventually a state. We made it back on the bus to our rigs with no problem and a good time was had by all! Enjoy the pics.
