|We celebrated Christmas with Mom today in Mesquite. We were hoping that she could come to Vegas and spend some time with us, but she was still not feeling up to par since her fall. It was obvious that she wouldn't be up to the drive right now so we made plans for her to visit in January.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned that she fell off the side of the bathtub last week. Apparently the shower curtain hooks were loose & she was trying to fix them and lost her balance. She fell backward and hit the sink/counter and bruised her back terribly. It's been a full week and she is still very stiff and in a lot of pain. And no, she did not go to the Emergency Room! We tried to take her there today but she refused to go. The nurses at the hospital have seen her three times this week (for her every other day blood work) and had encouraged her to see a doctor several times. She said 'no' to them, and they did not insist that she go, so we let her off the hook assuming that if they thought it was imperative they would have insisted. I hope that wasn't a bad decision. Anyway, I massaged her back with some healing oils, wanded her and shared a few of the pain pills I was given when I fell down the stairs in Florida. By the time we left this evening she seemed much better. I hope she will feel much better by Christmas Day & especially Monday when some of the grandchildren will be visiting. I know she is really looking forward to that.
After enjoying lunch out this afternoon, we went back to the house to open gifts. Don't you just love giving and receiving presents? I sure do! We were all pleased with the neat things we both gave and received. Mom was especially pleased with the doll we purchased for her in Pigeon Forge at Dolly's store. And her new wallet too! I've been looking for a leather wallet for her for the past five years. I'd given her one about 20 years ago and she loved it and has wanted one exactly like it. Well, lot's of luck with that one, lol! They just don't make things like they used too. Anyway, this one is fairly close and very nice and she was very happy with it. Mom gave me a beautiful butterfly necklace, Larry received the new headphones he wanted, and we both love our new fleece sheets. If you've never tried them, do! They are awesome, way better than the flannel we'd been using for years. Softer and oh, so comfy...Thanks Mom for making our day so special! We love you...
What a neat start to this year's Christmas festivities. Tomorrow I will be baking rolls in the morning and then we will be attending Christmas Eve service at our church. I'm cooking prime rib for dinner, a first for me. Wish me luck! Christmas morning Larry & I will open our gifts to each other and then head over to Larry & Tawnia's to watch the grandchildren enjoy their Christmas morning. Then we'll head back home and share Christmas dinner here at Bonnie & Larry's with more family. We'll be missing the rest of our family and thinking about all of them. Our son Jim will be having Christmas in Alaska with his wife and family, and our other two son's, Tom & Don are in Oregon with their families. We love and miss all of you and wish you a very Merry Christmas.
And that wish goes to all of our extended family as well, both relatives and friends. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
