Bob and Shirley's Great Adventure 2011-12 travel blog

Tom Sperry and me

Just part of the Strachan clan

We left Oxnard and headed to Orange County California where a significant amount of my relatives live. On our way we stopped and visited with an old radio buddy of mine Tom Sperry who was at his fiance's house in Orange County. We have not seen Tom in 27 years and let me tell you he has not aged a bit. A man on the go as he works the overnight shift in a credit card processing company and is an entertainer by day. He has an act and has quite a following in the retirement complexes around the Simi Valley area. We have kept up with each other via email and such but it was GREAT to see Tom again. Then we pulled up to Jim and Julianna Strachan's estate in Westminster, Shirley backed the camper in their RV pad (they sold their RV) and voila! we are set up off the street with electric and water. We surprised them a little by being early. Jim, his brother Tom and Patrick (my niece Rosie's fiancee) were on their way back from the desert where they were setting up for their annual sales events for the ATV'ers at the sand dunes. Shortly after they returned the rest of the Strachan's began arriving. My brother Merrill (who passed away nearly 2 years ago) and my sister in law Sue have 7 children living in this area. 6 were able to come, 3 foster kids, Sue and various wives, boyfriends, kids etc. and it made for a most EXCELLENT party. Freshly grilled steak and chicken were the main course for fajitas. Plenty of the other good stuff that goes with that AND the occasional beer. What a nice time we all had...and over about 8:30. I also got to use my baseball glove finally. My grand nephew Bobby (12) is a really good ballplayer and he had his mit with him. I had such a good time playing catch with him. I hope it is something he will remember throughout his life as the time Uncle Bob (who used be called Bobby) and played catch with him. We will be here for a week. Enjoy the pics.
