We flew from Vegas to San Diego on Thursday and caught a bus up to La Jolla where I (Helen) used to live when I did my year abroad at UCSD. We met up with my roommate Sonali and stayed at her apartment for two nights. We went to an Ethiopian restaurant on our first night and on Friday had a day of nostalgia. We went to La Jolla Village Square for lunch at Islands Burger Restaurant and then had a walk around the UCSD campus which was very wierd, especially as everyone has gone home for the summer. We went into La Jolla town centre and walked along the seafront and had coffee in The Living Room. Finally we went to UTC mall and did a bit of shopping before meeting up with Sonali and Aditi for dinner at PF Chang's, the best Chinese restaurant in the US! It was great to revisit all the places I used to go.

We stayed in the Gaslamp area Downtown for our last 3 nights and on Saturday went out to a couple of bars. It was great to finally be allowed in since I wasn't 21 when I lived here! We went to Croce's Jazz Bar and had dinner to avoid the cover charge, the food was the best dinner we've had on our trip, fantastic steak!

On Sunday we went to the Broken Yolk cafe in Pacific Beach for brunch and then took the trolley to Fashion Valley mall but were good and didn't buy anything! We had dinner at The Cheesecake Factory which does the best cheesecake I've ever had and was another favourite restaurant of mine.

Monday was our last day in the city and we decided to do a bit more shopping so we went to Horton Plaza in Downtown and I bought Levis for under 20 pounds!

We left for LA on Tuesday on the Amtrak train and then had to get the city bus to LAX which was a nightmare! We waited over an hour and then sat on this rickety tin-pot bus for an hour and a half, and this was the Express bus! Our hotel was ok but the area was dodgy so we got fast food (the only thing available) and hid in our room!
