No Internet last night so here is two days worth of travel fun for y'all. Mostly rain Monday as we travelled to Mt. Rainier WA. It was pouring when we pulled in. Drove the National Park Campground and most sites were water logged. Except the vacant Host Camper site. No only vacant but paved with utilities. Didn't use the utilities and did not really want people knocking on our door in the middle of the night....but we were in the host camper space. Rangers came to talk with me this morning though. They laughed and said it was alright. Did not see the mountain as it was socked in. So off we went to Mt. St. Helens. Now all of us were around in 1980 and most are old enough to remember the eruption. The visitors center told such a good story of the event both geologically and the personal/environmental impacts. Very impressive. Lakes were formed that had never been there before because of the HUGE landslide blocking off a river. ALL the trees were blown away by the hot blast of the explosion. Not burned, obliterated. The before and after pics are incredible. Massive planting has taken place high up in the forests by the road. Hard to believe the trees from so far away and high up were destroyed. The natural fauna is coming back in the basin and valleys. Unfortunately the clouds were over the mountain again. On our way to Portland and a visit with long time friend and one time co-worker Dave Clark. Enjoy the pics.
