How can one spend August in New York without visiting the "August Place to be"? I was lured into spending the afternoon at the racetrack in Saratoga to see the horses run. It was a glorious summer day; I brought my cooler and chair and enjoyed myself figuring out which horses to bet on and watching people and horses! For almost all the races a horse I didn't pick ruined my wins! Most of the time it was horse number 2. For instance, I'd box horses 3, 5, 8 and the winners were 3, 2, 8! So, in race 6, I picked 1, 2, and 3 and 2 & 3 came in making me a winner! I got half the exacta because I spend $6 on a race to do exacta boxes with 3 horses. Still, $28 helped! For race 7, I would have picked 4, 7, and 11 but I didn't bet, thinking I was better off stopping with a winning race. I walked around the grounds taking pictures of the improved racetrack grounds, then went out to the field to watch the horses run on the grass. It was a long race and the first time around the track, horse 4 came by with no rider! The second time, the horses up front were 7 and 11! I would have won $65 if I had bet! I just left the track at that point! It was a good day and I enjoyed myself.
