Another great day of travel yesterday on US 12, This highway stretches from Seattle to Plymouth Rock, Mass. We have been on the eastern portion several times and now are completing the western part. Tomorrow, we will head East for Wisconsin through central Minnesota and then stay in Ladysmith, Wi. Tuesday we should be home about 6 PM.

Eastern Montana and Western South Dakota is a constant change up of scenery, Farm land to prarie pasture / grazing land for miles with no homes or ranches seen for miles. Rolling hills to ragged rocky terrain to river valleys. Little towns that are smaller than most shopping centers in the east. From Helena to Aberdeen we noted some interesting towns, White Sulpher Springs, Checkerboard, Two Dot, Ryegate (home of the Testicle festival)Roundup, Never did see Sumatra. Crossing into North Dakota, Marmarth, home of Jim VanHorn and his automobile collection and museum. This is a place I could have spent the day, Lola came in and rousted me out after about an hour. Jim has most all of the Ford cars from the 1900's to 1950's. 12,000 sq ft of his collections for 60 years. www.VanHornAntiqueAuto.com I spent quite a spell talking to Jim and he is an expert on everything Ford

Crossing the Missouri River at Mobridge, SD. One way traffic with a 10 minute signal at each end. evidently lot of repair after the flooding this spring. One detour in SD. 1 mile east of Roscoe, signs indicated a 40 mile route (paved roads) but we followed locals north 5 miles. ease 3 miles on county 4, then 5 miles back south to US 12 aand the last 60 miles to Aberdeen.

Staying at the AmericInn in Aberdeen last night and tonight while we visit with Lolas sisters Brenda and her twin Lila. Mexican dinner with them last night.

Our idea of the Mom and Pop Motels was good but the actual places we found so far are pretty drab and bare bones. Seems that most have been purchased by foreign owners who don't give a darn about the American auto traveler. It has been really hard to find even marginal, well kept, clean, and inviting Motels. One more night on the road and we will stay at a Hampton or equivalent. Most accept pets for a small extra charge.

I will try to load some photos, I think I have it figured out.
