Another day on the road.

Today was to be our longest road trip of this holiday, there was no way I was going via Death Valley and risking the roads being closed across the mountains so we headed to Oakhurst via Fresno and Bakersfield which in the end ended up being a good decision.

Oakhust is another US country town that I really like, although it had grown substantially since we were here 18 years ago. We had accomodation booked at The Shilo Inn Suites and I can say that they were very clean and large rooms , the staff were great and they had 24 hour coffee bar available for free.

I was worried about driving the rental car into Yosemite tomorrow without snow chains so I headed off and found the tourist information centre at the far end of the town, the ladies there were extremely helpful and advised me I would not require chains for our visit on sunday, although there was a lot of snow in the park apparently, but I had to trust them.

Tonight we had dinner in a local chinese restaurant and the 4 of us had starters, mains , drinks and a free desert ALL for $39.00 ! After dinner we checked out the Oakhurst area, wandered around the local supermarket and then spent the night in the Shilo Inn room.
