Today was the Ride the Rookies bike tour. The tour was sponsored by The Denver Post & Wells Fargo. It started in Crested Butte taking 2,500+ bicyclist by our park, on the first leg of the week long ride. Todays ride took them 76 miles to Buena Vista, with a 4,314 ft elevation gain. What a work out! The week long tour will take them 412 miles riding thru Edwards, Steamboat Springs, Granby and ending up in Georgetown.
Marsha and I grabbed our lawn chairs, along with the camera and sat out at the entrance to the campground at around 8am. We had fun waving and encouraging the riders as they went by forl 2 1/2 hours.
The riders rode all kinds of bikes, wore a whole lot of different get ups and all were happy to see us sitting roadside and encouraging them. What a fun way to start the day!
The guys went fishing in the morning, but didn't have much luck. The deer have been visiting our camp site regularly. We have learned that there used to be a salt lick in our site. As the doe had her head down I would creep closer. Got some good shots of her.
