A look inside

This morning we took a 6-passenger enclosed tram (only 6 of us on it) up Mt. Alyeska. Alyeska Resort is the largest ski resort in Alaska. From the top you can see 7 different glaciers (3 very well) along with Turnagain Arm. I think we left about noon. Photo-op at Explorer Glacier with a beautiful turquoise pond in front of it. We then stopped in Portage to take a cruise on the M/V Ptarmigan and have a very up close look at Portage Glacier. The water in the lake was a very light gray, almost white, because so much glacier ice falls into it and there is very little oxygen in the water. We then took a .8 mile hike to the snowfield directly below Byron Glacier. Back tracked a few miles and stopped for the night at Portage Valley RV Park & Cabins in Portage at 4:30PM (29.1 miles)
