The Big Koala at Echo Point Blue Mountains

31st January. A day of rest, we did some shopping

1st February. We went into Katoomba to look for a Bank of Queensland, no luck as usual, then we went out to Echo Point which is at the opposite side of the valley to where Scenic World is, it is closer to the Three Sisters, and from the lookout you have a great view of the Sisters and the surrounding valley’s and mountains. The weather is very hot so we made our way back to the caravan park for a late lunch.

2nd February. Yesterday I broke a tooth, so this morning I managed to get an appointment to have it repaired, the tooth is repaired but the bank balance is the worse for it $425 for one filling. We have been looking for a Bank of Queensland so we had to drive back to Penrith, which is a back track of 60 klms. So seeing as the morning was taken up with the dentist we decided to sort the banking out. When we left home we asked if Bank of Queensland had branches all over Aus. And was assured that there was, we have seen only two in more than 20,000 klms.

3rd February. We decided to drive to Leura (which is the next town to Katoomba) to visit the Wentworth Falls, we decided to take the walk down to the falls, the sign said a few steps, what a load of....... it was steps all the way down, 200 to 300 mtrs. By the time we climbed back up I was absolutely knackered, after a bit of a rest and a bit of lunch we went to the Toy and Train Museum also in Leura, it is situated in a mansion owned by the Evett family (the brother of the once Prime Minister)

The toy collection was amazing, everything from Barbie dolls, to Biggles Annuals, cars, trains, everything a child could ever want, and the collection starts from the beginning of the last century. Out in the garden is a working model railway and a half a full size engine. In a shed (you look through windows, you can’t go inside) there is a wonderful train set (probably 10 different sets) through another window there is a war model of a battle field with everything from soldiers, nurses, vehicles, guns, cannons etc. It was all very interesting I’m sure kids would really love it.

4th February. An easy day, Wayne washed the car, and we just relaxed. We decided to go to the Ivanhoe Bistro for dinner with Sue & Alan as tomorrow we are going our separate ways, we are heading towards Bathurst, Orange and Cowra and Sue and Alan are heading back to Sydney to Lane Cove. The meal was disgusting, it’s been a long time since we have had such a crap meal, Sue had a seafood basket which she couldn’t eat, my grilled fish was like cardboard and Alan’s chicken was obviously out of a packet, Wayne had steak which he did manage to eat, as usual we should have sent it all back but didn’t. After eating what we could of the meal we went back to the caravan park and as it was a balmy night we sat outside having a few drinks, it was 10pm when we called it a night.
