Rain! We decide staying in Asuncion will not give us any more opportunity to see more so we head to long dist bus station via city bus #31/8, they say 'terminal'. Only bus going to Concepcion leaving early enuf departs at 1:50 pm, so 2 hour wait in station. Mari & Jake take advantage of P. O. and get stamps/mail postcards.
I order sopa Paraguay thinking it's some kind of soup! Not! It's some special Paraguay cornbread, soup here it called 'caldo' in Spanish- we find this out via a friendly PCV gal, Jen. She's heading out to her site (been here a year), and invites us for a visit but it's a bit out of the way. Too bad since she'd have a lot of insight into Paraguay at this point in her service.
Bus was supposed to take 5 hours but due to road construction we arr at 9 pm. A block away we find rooms at Hotel La Fortuna
. Countryside all the way here was Chaco-like, flat, scrub, small agriculture...and did I mention it's FLAT!Gran Chaco Info-What It's Like
Wake up to thunder and a major downpour (see pics), weather looks socked in. Rainy season no doubt has arr...10 am & Mari and Jake still imbed, ha! We walked the town when we thought it had let up a bit! Rain continues, watched the river rising. Played hearts later, Jake won!
