Victor & Joanne's Australia Adventure travel blog

Oct 18 – At Sea

It was so nice to sleep in, enjoy a leisurely morning and find endless blue skies and a warm breeze on the deck. Breakfast options are just too plentiful! Victor settled in to an omelette, sausages, bacon, fried potatoes and toast; Joanne’s choices were oatmeal and a plate of fresh fruit. Sense a trend?? And, guess who will gain weight ... it won’t be Victor!!

We spent the majority of the day on deck ten on lounges overlooking the pool and entertainment on the deck below. A day of reading, sipping water and enjoying the Caribbean music was a perfect way to unwind.

After relaxing and doing our best to be lazy, we donned our party duds and headed to the Captain’s Welcome Cocktail Reception before our first formal dinner. There were a few men in tuxedos, the majority in suits, and a few in their best shirt and jeans. We were both surprised by the casual dress for a formal night, so we’re guessing this is the trend for many cruise lines that offer a formal evening.

The food, one of our favourite parts of a cruise, is quite good. Some familiar delights: Escargot, duck, Pavlova ... Some new delicacies: prawn filled ravioli, Grounder fish, and more. We opted for a table for two the first two evenings and chose a table for eight tonight. Two couples from Australia and another from Los Angeles (originally from Romania) were our tablemates. Lively conversations about travel and the sharing of grandchild stories peppered our dinner conversation (can you guess that it’s a cruise made up primarily of people over 65 years??).

Our evening ended with a great show and a great singer: Karen Beckett. Her powerful voice reminded us of Barbara Streisand. All-in-all a great day!
