|We're still here! I haven't mentioned it but I have been having an indigestion/reflux type chest pain for nearly a week. Along with a couple of short jaw pains and a nice headache to boot. A shooting pain in my right eye traveling up the forehead and over the top of the head. I've spent days trying to self medicate with over-the-counter and prescription meds. I got occasional relief but not for long. My sis and our friend Janet, both nurses, thought that it would be a good idea to go in for tests before leaving town. I was trying to wait for the clinic to open tomorrow (Monday) morning but gave up and went to the Emergency Room today.
Apparently my symptoms can sometimes be indicative of a heart issue, especially in 50+ women. Thankfully, after blood work and an EKG, that turned out to not be the case for me. Praise God! I was scared to death that they would find I was ready to have 'a big one' and would be transported to the hospital in Rapid City. After drinking this disgusting 'stuff' my burning ceased shortly. My lips, tongue & mouth were numb too! That felt a bit weird. Turns out my esophagus is the problem and will be dosed with a morning & an evening medication for the next 3 months. At that time I'll need a scope to check things out and hopefully all will be well. Why this came on so suddenly is a bit of a mystery. It doesn't appear to be caused by any food or drink that I am consuming on a regular basis. I don't smoke, I'm not over weight and I don't gorge on soft drinks or chocolate. So, I turned age 60 on Friday and this starts on Saturday???? Larry says my warranty ran out on September 3rd, lol, so that's why I 'broke'!
There is still a bit of a concern on the jaw pain & the headache, so we will watch those issues closely. I have been under a bit of stress as we continue to monitor both Mom & Dad's health issues. Don't you wish that time could stand still at times? Aging is sometimes not much fun!
I think Mom had a 'bigger than normal' heart attack on Friday. She has had several 'small' ones recently but this one was stronger. She was outside but managed to stumble into the house and get an aspirin under her tongue before her jaw locked. She said her lip was pulled back & her teeth were all showing & that she hardly recognized herself. She laid down until it passed. No, no, no, Mom, do NOT lay down. You should have called 911! She told me today that she is sore but doing okay. No more chest pain. I know she is under a lot of stress and that worries me. Being a caregiver for Dad is quite a job. But after 62 years of marriage she won't consider him leaving the home for care. And he doesn't want to. I certainly give her a lot of credit for her love and dedication. And the same goes for all you caregiver's out there. I'm also grateful that sister Lori is just a few blocks away. She has promised to give us frequent updates on all of them.
Mom insists that we continue with our current travel plans. We discussed it at length today. We had decided to head back to Ely on Tuesday morning. But, she finally convinced us that we should not do that, so we are going to do as she asked. We'll be 'home' in about 8 weeks. I pray that all goes well until then. If you'd like to throw in a prayer or two, we would all be most grateful. Goodnight....
